Work Smart, Stress Less

When I tell someone that I am a Reiki Master, their first reaction is that of “I’ve heard of Reiki, but have no idea what it is!” The answer is a simple one… and a complex one.

Reiki is a healing system. It usually, but not always, relies on the Reiki practitioner placing their hands on a person and sending healing energy in to their body.

That’s the simple answer. The more complex answer takes more explanation. First of all, Reiki is not based on any religion or dogma. It’s something that we all have in us, but those who use Reiki regularly have been tuned in to it to help boost their natural healing gift. Just imagine, when you have a headache, you probably put your hand on the place where the pain is. In essence, this is what happens with Reiki too. Hands are placed on the body to help it heal. The person doing this is just a channel, or conduit, for the healing energy. The energy itself will find it’s own way to where it is needed. This direction can be for the physical body, mental body or even the spiritual body.

The energy that is sent in to another person is positive energy. Reiki is 100% positive and practitioners cannot send negative energy in to another person. It just doesn’t work that way. We all can use this healing ability if we chose to use it. Some do, some don’t. We have this ability because at the very basic level, we are all made of the same stuff, that which came out of “The Big Bang”, billions of years ago, when our universe was created. Sp, at an atomic, or even sub-atomic level, we are all connected in a very basic way.

But does it actually work, or is it just a placebo effect? Good questions to ask. Our science at the moment finds it difficult to prove the benefits of Reiki and other hands healing systems. This raises the question as to whether our science is advanced enough to be able to detect the effects of healing energies and their effect on others. Once it was believed that the sun revolved around the Earth, until our understanding and science proved otherwise.

Reiki can help with healing but it’s not a miracle cure. It may help in conjunction with traditional medicine but should not be seen as a substitute for it.

Practising Reiki does not necessarily make a person a good person. We are all human, with our own characters, our own perceptions and views and our own faults. Using Reiki may, however, help practitioners see the world around them in a different way even with a wider perspective.

Reiki is also a gift. It is often given freely without any exchange of goods or money. The important thing is the giving. Receiving in return is not necessary. However, we all need to live and support ourselves and our families so formal Reiki treatments need to be charged for.

For me, Reiki has been, and will be, a journey. There is so much to learn about it and how it can be used. It is a beautiful gift to have and to share. I have seen it help many people in often diverse and wonderful ways. It also has helped in my own personal development and growth, giving me a feeling of being whole and complete. It helps me see the beauty in people and in the world around me…

As Reiki practitioners often say, Love and Light.
